An OnlineSIM alternative where your balance never expires

OnlineSIM has sold SMS activations since 2013, with single-service numbers, extendable rentals, public test numbers and a documented API. Its billing is close to ours: money is reserved, not spent, while you wait for the SMS. The biggest differences are in what happens to an idle balance, how refunds to your card work and which API your tools speak.

Quick answer

What is a good OnlineSIM alternative?

Look for clear billing and a balance that does not vanish. TempSMSVerify freezes the price on purchase, charges only when the SMS arrives and refunds automatically otherwise. Its balance never expires, while OnlineSIM's terms delete accounts 30 days after the last activity without a purchase. TempSMSVerify also offers 140+ countries and an SMS-Activate-compatible API.

Verdict

OnlineSIM is a mature service with useful extras: unlimited SMS from one service during the window, extendable rentals, webhooks and public test numbers. TempSMSVerify has a similar pay-on-delivery model, more countries, card payments through Stripe and an SMS-Activate endpoint, and it never deletes an idle balance. If you top up occasionally, that last point may decide it.

Why do people look for sites like OnlineSIM?

OnlineSIM is one of the older names in this market, so people usually look for an alternative for a specific reason: a balance that disappeared after a quiet month, a refund to a card that took longer than expected, an API their tools do not speak, or simply a second provider for the days stock runs low.

Comparing sites like OnlineSIM is easiest with a short list: when money leaves your balance, what happens if the code never arrives, how long an unused balance survives, and how much work your integration needs. Each answer below comes from the two services' own pages, with the date we checked.

How does OnlineSIM billing compare with TempSMSVerify?

The models are closer than most comparisons admit. OnlineSIM's FAQ says that if the SMS does not arrive you can close the number and the money is not debited from your balance, and its API reports a frozen balance reserved for active operations. TempSMSVerify works the same way in principle: the price is frozen at purchase and charged only when the SMS arrives.

Where they differ is the window and what one order covers. OnlineSIM's single-service number lasts 15 minutes for most services and accepts unlimited SMS from that one service. A TempSMSVerify number is reserved for up to 20 minutes, extra codes from the app are included, the cancel button unlocks after about 2 minutes, and an expired number is refunded automatically.

Does an OnlineSIM balance expire?

Read section 11 of OnlineSIM's public offer before you top up a large amount. As of October 24, 2026, it says account information is kept for 30 days from the last activity, that the account is deleted automatically if no new purchase happens in that period, and that any remaining balance is then forfeited and non-refundable. Its refund policy (last updated February 27, 2026) repeats that an automatically deleted account's balance is not refunded.

That rule suits people who use the service every week. It is a poor fit if you verify an account every few months. A TempSMSVerify balance never expires and there is no subscription, so a $5 top-up can sit unused until you need it.

Can I get my deposit back?

OnlineSIM's refund policy says refunds of balance are not automatic: you email support, each request is reviewed case by case within 5 business days, approved refunds go to the original payment method within 3 to 5 business days, and third-party fees are not refunded. It also says no refunds are given for network outcomes such as non-delivery or a number the app does not accept.

On TempSMSVerify, failed orders never cost anything in the first place, because the frozen amount is released back to your balance automatically. For questions about unused balance, write to [email protected]; our refund policy at /refund-policy explains the rules.

Can I move an OnlineSIM integration to TempSMSVerify?

OnlineSIM uses its own API (v1.1 in its docs) with methods such as getTariffs, getNum, getState and setOperationOk, plus rental methods and a webhook for new SMS. Its public documentation does not list an SMS-Activate-compatible endpoint, although onlinesim.io/stubs/handler_api.php returned an SMS-Activate-style BAD_KEY reply when we tested it on October 24, 2026. If your tool uses OnlineSIM's own API, moving to TempSMSVerify is a short rewrite rather than a URL swap.

The mapping is direct. Buy with POST /api/v1/orders, poll GET /api/v1/orders/{id} every few seconds and cancel with POST /api/v1/orders/{id}/cancel, sending your key in the X-Api-Key header. If you would rather use a widely supported protocol, TempSMSVerify also serves the SMS-Activate handler_api, which many existing bots already speak. Webhooks and rentals have no equivalent here.

When is OnlineSIM the better choice?

OnlineSIM is the better fit if you need extendable rentals, webhooks that push each SMS to your server, unlimited messages from one service during the window, or public test numbers to try the flow before paying. Its long track record and its mobile proxy product may also matter for some workflows.

TempSMSVerify makes more sense when you top up occasionally and want a balance that never expires, need card payments through Stripe, want more countries to choose from or already run tools built for the SMS-Activate protocol.

Do the same usage rules apply?

Yes. Both services exclude financial senders, and TempSMSVerify also excludes fintechs, crypto exchanges and betting. Use numbers only for accounts you own, follow each app's terms and never use them for fraud, spam, impersonation or getting around bans. See /acceptable-use.

FAQ

OnlineSIM alternative FAQ

Does OnlineSIM charge you if no SMS arrives?

No. OnlineSIM's FAQ (checked October 24, 2026) says you can close a number that received nothing and the money is not debited, and its API shows funds reserved for active operations as a frozen balance. TempSMSVerify works similarly: the price is frozen at purchase, charged only when the SMS arrives and released automatically if the number expires.

Does an OnlineSIM balance expire?

Under section 11 of its public offer, an account with no new purchase for 30 days after the last activity is deleted automatically, and any remaining balance is forfeited and non-refundable. Check the current terms before topping up. A TempSMSVerify balance never expires, so occasional users do not lose money between verifications.

Can I withdraw or refund an OnlineSIM deposit?

You can ask. OnlineSIM's refund policy says refunds are not automatic: you email [email protected], each case is reviewed within 5 business days, approved refunds go to the original payment method in 3 to 5 business days and third-party fees are not returned. It also excludes refunds for non-delivery and similar network outcomes.

Does OnlineSIM have an SMS-Activate-compatible API?

Not officially. The public API documentation we checked on October 24, 2026 describes its own v1.1 methods such as getNum, getState and rental calls, plus webhooks, although an undocumented onlinesim.io/stubs/handler_api.php path answered in SMS-Activate format when we tested it that day. TempSMSVerify offers both a REST v1 API and an SMS-Activate-compatible handler_api, so bots written for SMS-Activate can usually connect by changing the URL and key.

Does TempSMSVerify have public test numbers like OnlineSIM?

No. OnlineSIM publishes public numbers you can watch before buying, which it notes may already be used on popular services. TempSMSVerify only sells private numbers reserved for one order. Nothing is charged unless the code arrives, so a first paid test with a $5 top-up carries little risk.

Does TempSMSVerify offer rentals like OnlineSIM?

No. TempSMSVerify sells one-time verifications: each number is reserved for up to 20 minutes and then released. OnlineSIM offers rentals you can extend. If you need a number that keeps receiving SMS from many senders for weeks, OnlineSIM or another rental service is the better tool, and TempSMSVerify works well alongside it for one-time codes.

Which is better for occasional use, OnlineSIM or TempSMSVerify?

For occasional use, balance rules matter most. OnlineSIM's terms delete accounts 30 days after the last activity with no purchase and forfeit the balance. TempSMSVerify never expires a balance and charges only when a code arrives. If you verify an account every few months, that difference usually outweighs small price gaps.
