Yes. Buy a Signal number on TempSMSVerify, enter it on Signal's registration screen, and the 6-digit Signal verification code appears in your dashboard. Your balance is frozen and charged only if the SMS arrives. Then set a Signal PIN and turn on Registration Lock, so nobody can re-register the number later.

How the Signal verification code works

Signal is built around a phone number. When you register, Signal sends a 6-digit verification code by SMS. If the text does not arrive, a timer counts down and then lets you tap 'Call me' to hear the code. Some registrations also show a CAPTCHA first.

Signal will never ask you for this code. Anyone who asks for it, in Signal or anywhere else, is trying to take over your account.

Can you use Signal without a phone number?

For most people, not yet. In September 2026, Signal began testing registration without a phone number in its Android beta (version 8.28). According to Android Authority's report of September 17, 2026, it carries a one-time $3 fee and gives you an account ID and password instead of a number. If you lose those, there is no way to recover the account. It is not on iPhone or in the stable app yet.

Until that rolls out widely, the practical way to keep your personal number out of Signal is to register with a different number, then hide it with Signal's privacy settings.

Registration Lock: the step that makes a temporary number safe

After a temporary number expires, the line can be reassigned to someone else. Without protection, that person could request a Signal verification code and register the number on their own device.

Signal's Registration Lock prevents this. When it is on, registering the number requires your Signal PIN as well as the SMS code. Turn it on right after you verify.

  • Set a strong Signal PIN in Settings > Account and store it in a password manager.
  • Turn on Registration Lock in the same menu.
  • Set 'Who can find me by my number' to Nobody and share a username instead.
  • Turn on encrypted backups so a phone change does not cost you your history.

Signal verification code errors and fixes

Signal limits repeated attempts to protect numbers from abuse. Request once, wait for the timer, and do not switch numbers mid-flow.

Pay only if the Signal code arrives

When you buy a Signal number, TempSMSVerify freezes the price in your balance. The charge goes through only when an SMS reaches the number. If Signal never sends the code before the number expires after up to 20 minutes, the full amount goes back to your balance automatically. Our dashboard shows SMS, not voice calls, so stay on the text message option.

Responsible use on Signal

Use TempSMSVerify only for your own Signal account, and follow Signal's Terms of Service. Spam, scams, impersonation, harassment and mass account creation are prohibited by Signal and by our Acceptable Use Policy at /acceptable-use. A separate number is a privacy tool, not a shield for abuse.

FAQ

Signal verification FAQ

How many digits is the Signal verification code?

Signal's registration code is 6 digits and is sent by SMS. If it does not arrive, Signal offers a voice call after a countdown. TempSMSVerify shows SMS codes only, so keep the text option and copy the latest code from your dashboard as soon as it appears.

Can I use Signal without a phone number?

Mostly not yet. Since September 2026, Signal has been testing numberless registration in its Android beta, with a one-time $3 fee, according to Android Authority. Lost credentials cannot be recovered. Until it reaches all users, registering with a separate number and hiding it is the practical option.

Why is my Signal verification code not arriving?

Delivery can fail on Signal's side or on the carrier behind the number, and repeated requests trigger rate limits. Request once and wait for the timer. With TempSMSVerify, if no SMS arrives you can cancel after about 2 minutes, and your frozen balance is refunded automatically and in full.

What is Signal Registration Lock?

Registration Lock is a Signal setting that requires your Signal PIN, in addition to the SMS code, to register your number on a new device. It stops anyone who later gets the same phone number from taking over your account. Turn it on right after you verify with a temporary number.

Will people see my temporary number on Signal?

By default, Signal no longer shows your number to everyone. People who already have the number saved can still see it. Set 'Who can find me by my number' to Nobody and share a Signal username instead, so contacts can reach you without knowing the number at all.

What happens to my Signal account when the number expires?

Your account keeps working on the device where you registered it. You cannot receive a new SMS code on that number again, so a reinstall or phone change needs your Signal PIN to re-register. Keep the PIN safe, enable Registration Lock, and turn on encrypted backups.

Is it legal to use a temporary number for Signal?

Registering your own account with a number you control for verification is generally lawful, but you must follow Signal's terms and local law. Spam, scams, impersonation and mass account creation are banned by Signal and by our Acceptable Use Policy at /acceptable-use.
