How does Amazon phone verification work?
When you create an account with a mobile number, Amazon texts a one-time password to confirm it. Amazon also sends a six-digit passcode when a sign-in looks different, for example after you clear cookies or log in from a new browser, device or location.
The same number is used for password resets and, if you turn it on, 2-Step Verification. Amazon says it will never contact you first to ask for your password or a verification passcode.

Watch out for delivery OTPs
For some high-value packages, Amazon uses Secure Delivery. On delivery day it sends a six-digit OTP to your registered email, SMS or WhatsApp, and the driver needs it to hand over the box. If the only phone on your account is a temporary number that has expired, you will not get that code by SMS.
