German phone numbers for SMS verification

A Germany temporary number gives you a +49 German number for one sign-up, so you can receive a verification code from apps and marketplaces that expect a number from Germany or the EU. TempSMSVerify reserves the number in your browser, shows the code as soon as it lands and charges you only if the SMS actually arrives.

Why do apps ask for a German phone number?

Germany is the largest market in the EU, and many services treat it as its own storefront with German prices, German-language support and features that only switch on for German accounts. Some platforms go further and accept only European numbers for verification: Kleinanzeigen, the big German classifieds site, asks for an SMS code before you post or reply in certain categories such as tutoring, babysitting and side jobs, and its help pages say only numbers from EU member states are accepted.

People abroad also need a German number for practical reasons: setting up accounts before a move for work or study, running a shop or community aimed at German customers, or testing how their own app handles +49 numbers. And plenty of people simply prefer not to hand their personal mobile to a one-time sign-up.

  • Preparing accounts before relocating to Germany for a job, a Studium or an Ausbildung
  • Running a German-facing shop, channel or community
  • Testing how your own app validates +49 numbers of different lengths
  • Keeping your personal number off a one-time sign-up

What does a German mobile number look like?

German mobile numbers start with 015, 016 or 017 in national format, for example 0151, 0160 or 0176, and are 11 or 12 digits long including that leading 0. Unlike many countries, Germany does not use one fixed length, so a valid German mobile number can have 7 or 8 digits after the three-digit mobile prefix. Forms that assume every number has the same length are a common source of errors.

In international format you drop the 0 and add +49: 0176 1234567 becomes +49 176 1234567. If the app shows a country picker set to Germany (+49), type the number without the 0. Landline numbers use city codes such as 030 for Berlin or 089 for Munich, but SMS verification almost always goes to a mobile range.

Which apps do people verify with a German number?

Every app sets its own rules, and acceptance can change from week to week, so TempSMSVerify never promises that a given service will take a number. These are common reasons people pick Germany. The catalog shows live stock and the current price for each app before you buy.

Do German SIM rules or GDPR affect a temporary number?

Since July 1, 2017, under an amendment to the Telecommunications Act (TKG), German law has required mobile operators to verify the identity of anyone activating a prepaid SIM, usually with an ID card or passport check. That is why German SIM cards are hard to get from abroad, and why services that sell numbers online source them through line providers rather than handing you a SIM in your name.

Because Germany is in the EU, apps that serve German users must follow the GDPR when they process your phone number. That rule applies to the app, not to the number itself, and it does not change whether the app accepts a given number. Use the number only for your own accounts and follow each app's terms and our policy at /acceptable-use.

Will a German temporary number work with every app?

Not always. Line types vary by provider, and TempSMSVerify does not market its German numbers as carrier SIM lines. Some apps run a carrier lookup and refuse numbers they classify as virtual or as previously used, and the same app can accept a number one week and reject it the next.

The billing model is built for that. The price is frozen, not charged, while the number is reserved for up to 20 minutes. If the code arrives you pay; if the app refuses the number or nothing comes, cancel after about 2 minutes or let it expire and the full amount returns to your balance. You can then try another number or another of the 140+ countries in the catalog, such as the Netherlands or France.

Tips for verifying with a German number

A few habits save time with +49 numbers.

  • Select Germany (+49) in the country picker and type the number without the leading 0
  • Do not pad or trim the digits; a German mobile number can legitimately have 10 or 11 digits after +49
  • Request the SMS right after the number is reserved, while the window is fresh
  • Wait a minute or two before tapping Resend (Code erneut senden); codes usually arrive within seconds to a few minutes
  • Add your own recovery email or authenticator app once you are in, because the number is temporary

FAQ

Germany temporary number FAQ

Can I get a German phone number for verification from outside Germany?

Yes. TempSMSVerify works over the internet, so you can get a +49 German number from any country without a German address or ID. Choose the app, select Germany and enter the number in the sign-up form. The code shows up in your dashboard, and you are charged only if the SMS actually arrives. Some apps also check your location, which a number does not change.

Why does my German number have a different length than another one?

Germany does not use a single fixed length for mobile numbers. Depending on the range, a mobile number has 11 or 12 digits including the leading 0, for example 0151 1234567 or 0176 12345678. Both are valid. Copy the number exactly as shown in your dashboard, and drop only the leading 0 when the app's picker already shows +49.

How much does a Germany temporary number cost?

The price depends on the app and on current stock, and you see it before you buy; the live price index at /temp-number-prices compares apps side by side. There is no subscription. Top up at least $5 once, and each number is charged only if its code arrives. Otherwise the frozen amount is refunded automatically.

Does a German number help with apps that only accept EU numbers?

It can, because +49 is an EU country code, and some platforms, such as Kleinanzeigen in certain categories, accept only EU numbers for their SMS check. Acceptance still depends on each app's own lookup of the number type, so test with one number first. If the code never arrives, you are not charged and the amount returns to your balance.

Is a virtual German phone number a mobile number?

Numbers are usually in German mobile ranges, but line types vary by provider and TempSMSVerify does not claim they are carrier SIM lines. Some apps check the number type and may refuse certain numbers. Because you pay only when a code arrives, a refused number is never charged; cancel after about 2 minutes or let it expire and the amount returns to your balance.

Can I keep the same German number for future logins?

No. These are temporary numbers for a single verification, released after up to 20 minutes, so you cannot count on getting the same one back. Once you are verified, add a recovery email, an authenticator app or a phone number you own to the account, so you never depend on the temporary number to sign in again.

Which payment methods can I use for a German number?

TempSMSVerify currently accepts Card via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay); Crypto (USDC or SOL on Solana), with a minimum top-up of $5. Card top-ups carry a 10% processing fee; crypto has none. Your balance never expires, so you can top up once and use it for several verifications across countries and apps. Payment questions can go to [email protected].
