Mexican phone numbers for SMS verification
A Mexico temporary number gives you a +52 Mexican number for one sign-up, so you can receive a verification code from apps that expect a number from Mexico. TempSMSVerify reserves the number in your browser, shows the code as soon as it lands and charges you only if the SMS actually arrives.

Why do apps ask for a Mexican phone number?
In Mexico, the phone number is the account. WhatsApp is how people reach shops, doctors and landlords, and ride and delivery apps such as DiDi, Rappi and Uber, plus marketplaces like Mercado Libre, ask for a Mexican number and confirm it with a code. Some features and promotions are only offered to accounts with a +52 number.
Remote workers in Mexico City, retirees in the Lake Chapala area, students and cross-border families often want a Mexican number before they sort out a local line. Developers on both sides of the border use +52 numbers to make sure their forms handle Mexico's 10-digit format without the old mobile 1.
- Setting up accounts before relocating to Mexico
- Using Mexican ride, delivery and shopping apps
- Testing 10-digit +52 numbers in your own app
- Keeping your personal number off a one-time sign-up
What does a Mexican mobile number look like?
Since August 2019, every Mexican number, mobile or landline, has 10 digits. The number includes an area code of 2 digits for the three largest cities (55 for Mexico City, 33 for Guadalajara, 81 for Monterrey) or 3 digits elsewhere, followed by the subscriber number.
Mexico also retired the old dialing prefixes that year: the 044 and 045 codes inside Mexico and the extra 1 that used to go after +52 for mobile numbers. Some old forms and contact lists still show +52 1 55..., but the correct international format today is +52 55 1234 5678. Mobile and landline numbers look the same, so you cannot tell them apart by the digits.
| National format | International format | |
|---|---|---|
| Example (Mexico City) | 55 1234 5678 | +52 55 1234 5678 |
| Example (other cities) | 998 123 4567 | +52 998 123 4567 |
| Digits | 10 for all numbers | 10 after +52 |
| Old mobile format | 044 / 045 (retired 2019) | +52 1 (retired 2019) |
Which apps do people verify with a Mexican number?
Every app sets its own rules, and acceptance can change from week to week, so TempSMSVerify never promises that a given service will take a number. These are common reasons people pick Mexico. The catalog shows live stock and the current price for each app before you buy.
| App or service | Typical reason for a Mexican number | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| The everyday channel for Mexican shops and services | /temp-number/whatsapp | |
| Uber | Rider account in Mexican cities | /temp-number/uber |
| Google / Gmail | Phone check when creating an account | /temp-number/google |

How does Mexico's 2026 phone line registration affect a temporary number?
Mexico now requires every mobile line to be linked to an identified person or company. Under rules from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT), new lines have been registered with a CURP or RFC since January 9, 2026, existing prepaid lines had until June 30, 2026, and carriers began suspending unlinked lines in a staggered calendar from August 2026. An earlier registry, PANAUT, was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2022; this is a new scheme.
For you, this mainly means that getting a Mexican SIM now involves an ID check, and that a Mexican line you used before may have been suspended. A temporary number on TempSMSVerify is used for a single verification and comes through line providers, not in your name. It is not a way around Mexican identity rules for services that legally require them, such as banks, and you should use it only for your own accounts under /acceptable-use.
Will a Mexican temporary number work with every app?
Not always. Line types vary by provider, and TempSMSVerify does not market its Mexican numbers as carrier SIM lines. Some apps check the number type or history and refuse certain numbers, and some send the code by WhatsApp or voice call; only SMS reaches your dashboard.
Because of that, you are charged only on delivery. The price is frozen while the number is reserved for up to 20 minutes. If nothing arrives, cancel after about 2 minutes or let the number expire and the full amount returns to your balance, ready for another number or another of the 140+ countries in the catalog.
Tips for verifying with a Mexican number
A few habits save time with +52 numbers.
- Select Mexico (+52) and type the 10 digits; do not add the old 1 after +52
- If a very old form insists on 11 digits, it is outdated; try the app instead of the website
- Choose SMS when the app offers WhatsApp, SMS or a call
- Wait a minute or two before tapping Reenviar código; codes usually arrive within seconds to a few minutes
- Add a recovery email or authenticator app once you are in, because the number is temporary
FAQ
Mexico temporary number FAQ
Can I get a Mexican phone number for verification from outside Mexico?
Yes. TempSMSVerify works over the internet, so you can get a +52 Mexican number from any country without a CURP. Choose the app, select Mexico and enter the number in the sign-up form. The code appears in your dashboard, and you are charged only if the SMS arrives. Some apps also check your location, which a number does not change.
Do I need to add a 1 after +52 for a Mexican mobile number?
No. Mexico removed the extra 1 for mobile numbers, along with the 044 and 045 prefixes, in August 2019. Every Mexican number now has 10 digits, so the correct format is +52 followed by those 10 digits, for example +52 55 1234 5678. Adding the 1 can make the app send the code to a number that does not exist.
How much does a Mexico temporary number cost?
The price depends on the app and on current stock, and you see it before you buy; the live price index at /temp-number-prices compares apps side by side. There is no subscription. Top up at least $5 once, and each number is charged only if its code arrives. Otherwise the frozen amount is refunded automatically.
Does Mexico's CURP line registration apply to temporary numbers?
The 2026 rules require carriers to link each mobile line to an identified person or company, and they apply to the carriers and line holders. TempSMSVerify numbers come through line providers and are used for one verification, not issued in your name. They are not meant for services that must legally verify your identity, such as banks.
Is a virtual Mexican phone number a mobile number?
Mexican mobile and landline numbers share the same 10-digit format, and line types vary by provider. TempSMSVerify does not claim its Mexican numbers are carrier SIM lines. Some apps check the number type and may refuse certain numbers. Because you pay only when a code arrives, a refused number is never charged and the amount returns to your balance.
Can I keep the same Mexican number for future logins?
No. These are temporary numbers for a single verification, released after up to 20 minutes, so you cannot count on getting the same one back. Once you are verified, add a recovery email, an authenticator app or a phone number you own to the account so you never depend on the temporary number to sign in.
Which payment methods can I use for a Mexican number?
TempSMSVerify currently accepts Card via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay); Crypto (USDC or SOL on Solana), with a minimum top-up of $5. Card top-ups carry a 10% processing fee; crypto has none. Your balance never expires, so you can top up once and use it for several verifications across countries and apps. Payment questions can go to [email protected].
