Malaysian phone numbers for SMS verification
A Malaysia temporary number gives you a +60 mobile-format number for one sign-up, so you can receive the code that Malaysian apps send before they activate an account. TempSMSVerify reserves the number in your browser, shows the SMS as soon as it lands and charges you only if the code actually arrives.

Why do apps ask for a Malaysian phone number?
Southeast Asian platforms run separate country versions, and Malaysia is one of the busiest. Grab, Shopee, Lazada, foodpanda, Carousell and Mudah.my usually confirm a new account with an SMS code, and the number's country decides which storefront, currency and promotions you see.
Sellers expanding into Malaysia, students and workers heading to Kuala Lumpur or Penang, and developers testing +60 sign-up flows all need a Malaysian number for that first step. A temporary one lets you finish it without picking up a local prepaid SIM.
- Opening a buyer or seller account for the Malaysian market
- Testing your own app's OTP flow with Malaysian number lengths
- Preparing accounts before you study or work in Malaysia
- Keeping your personal number off a one-time sign-up
Why do Malaysian mobile numbers have different lengths?
Malaysian mobile numbers start with 01 and are usually 10 digits long, for example 012-XXX XXXX or 017-XXX XXXX. When the original ranges filled up, the regulator, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), opened the 011 prefix with an extra digit, so 011 numbers have 11 digits, such as 011-XXXX XXXX.
In international format the 0 is dropped and +60 is added: 012-XXX XXXX becomes +60 12-XXX XXXX, and 011-XXXX XXXX becomes +60 11-XXXX XXXX. That gives 9 or 10 digits after +60. Some older forms reject the longer 011 numbers; that is a validation issue in the app, not a delivery problem.
| Prefix | Domestic example | International form |
|---|---|---|
| 010, 012-014, 016-019 | 012-XXX XXXX (10 digits) | +60 12 XXX XXXX |
| 011 | 011-XXXX XXXX (11 digits) | +60 11 XXXX XXXX |
Malaysian SIM registration in brief
Prepaid SIMs in Malaysia must be registered with the operator using a MyKad for citizens or, for foreigners, a passport, work permit or student ID, according to the MCMC's prepaid registration FAQ (checked October 2026). Operators such as CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile and Unifi Mobile check the document before a line goes live.
The numbers on TempSMSVerify are temporary provider lines for a single verification, not SIMs registered in your name. Use them for one-time codes on accounts you own, and keep e-wallets, banking and other long-term accounts on your own registered SIM.
Which apps do people verify with a Malaysian number?
Every app sets its own rules and acceptance can change week to week, so TempSMSVerify does not promise any service will accept a number. These are common reasons people choose Malaysia in the catalog. Live stock and price for each app are shown before you buy.
| App or service | Typical reason for a +60 number | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Shopee | OTP for a Malaysian buyer or seller account | /temp-number/shopee |
| Grab, foodpanda | Code sent when registering for rides or delivery | /temp-number |
| Carousell, Mudah.my | Phone check before listing items | /temp-number |
| A separate account for a Malaysian business | /temp-number/whatsapp | |
| Phone-based registration | /temp-number/wechat | |
| Telegram | A channel or community account | /temp-number/telegram |
What happens after I buy a Malaysian number?
The price is frozen in your balance, not charged, and the +60 number is reserved for up to 20 minutes. You enter it in the app and request the SMS. When the code arrives, it appears in your dashboard and only then is the frozen amount charged.
If the app sends another code while the number is active, you can read it on the same number at no extra cost. If no SMS comes, cancel after about 2 minutes or let the number expire, and the full amount returns to your balance automatically.
Will a Malaysian temporary number work with every app?
Not always. Line types vary by provider, and TempSMSVerify does not market its Malaysian numbers as carrier SIM lines. Shopping and super apps often check a number's history, and they may refuse numbers that were used for other accounts.
If that happens, you are not charged. Get the frozen amount back and try a new number, or pick a neighboring market such as the Philippines if the account does not need to be Malaysian.
Tips for verifying with a +60 number
A few habits help with Malaysian numbers.
- Drop the 0: type 12 XXX XXXX, not 012, after +60
- Do not add or remove digits from 011 numbers; they are meant to be longer
- Request the code right after the number is reserved
- Never use a temporary number for e-wallets or banking
- Add your own email or authenticator once verified, because the number is temporary
- Verify only accounts you own and follow each app's terms and /acceptable-use
FAQ
Malaysia temporary number FAQ
Can I get a Malaysian number for verification from outside Malaysia?
Yes. TempSMSVerify works over the internet, so you can get a +60 number from any country. Choose the app, select Malaysia and enter the number in the sign-up form. The code shows in your dashboard and you are charged only if the SMS arrives. Some apps also check your location, which a number does not change.
How many digits does a Malaysian mobile number have?
Most have 10 digits inside Malaysia and start with 01, such as 012-XXX XXXX. Numbers starting with 011 have 11 digits. Internationally you drop the 0 and add +60, leaving 9 digits after +60, or 10 for 011 numbers. Type the digits exactly as given, without the leading 0.
Do I need a MyKad or passport to use a temporary Malaysian number?
No. MyKad or passport registration applies to SIM cards that Malaysian operators sell. The numbers on TempSMSVerify are temporary provider lines for one verification, not SIMs registered to you. Use them only for accounts you own, and keep wallets, banking and long-term accounts on your own registered SIM.
How much does a Malaysia temporary number cost?
Prices depend on the app and current stock, and you see the exact price before buying; /temp-number-prices compares live prices across apps. There is no subscription. Add at least $5 once, and each number is charged only if its code arrives. If not, the frozen amount returns to your balance automatically.
Can I use a +60 number for Shopee Malaysia?
Many people do, because Shopee Malaysia sends an OTP to the phone number at sign-up. Shopee runs its own checks, so acceptance is never certain, and it may also ask for a code later when you log in from a new device. If the code does not arrive, you pay nothing and the frozen amount is refunded.
How long is the Malaysian number reserved?
Each number is reserved for up to 20 minutes. Codes usually arrive within seconds to a few minutes. While the number is active you can receive another SMS on it at no extra cost. If the window ends without a code, the full amount goes back to your balance automatically.
Can I reuse the same Malaysian number later?
No. Numbers are released after up to 20 minutes, so you cannot count on them for future logins or device checks. Once verified, add a recovery email, an authenticator app or your own phone number so the account does not depend on the temporary number.
