Can I verify Airbnb with a temporary phone number?

You can receive Airbnb's 4-digit verification code on a TempSMSVerify number for your own account, and you pay only if the SMS arrives. How does the Airbnb verification code work?

Airbnb's help center says guests need a verified phone number before they make a reservation, and Hosts need one before they list a home. To add one, go to Profile > Account > Personal information, select Edit next to Phone number, choose your country and enter the number. When you select Verify, Airbnb texts a 4-digit code.

Airbnb also uses your number for two-factor authentication on sensitive account areas. It sends a one-time passcode by text or phone call, and then asks for a PIN or security questions. Airbnb says this is required for all Hosts in the European Economic Area.

Your Airbnb number is shared with your host

Once a reservation is confirmed, Airbnb makes the phone numbers of the guest and the Host visible to each other. Hosts use them for check-in instructions, lockbox codes and last-minute changes. If the number on your profile is a temporary one that has expired, your host cannot reach you.

That makes Airbnb different from most apps on this site. A TempSMSVerify number is a sensible way to create an account or to explore listings while you decide. Before you request or confirm a stay, change the number in Personal information to one you can answer while traveling.

Phone number for Airbnb: errors and fixes

Airbnb asks for the number in full international format, and its help center notes that some phone types cannot receive the code. When that happens, the fix is a different number.

Phone verification is not identity verification

Confirming a phone number is only one part of Airbnb's checks. Airbnb may also ask for a government ID, a selfie or other details before you book or host, and those steps have nothing to do with SMS. A temporary number cannot help with them, and it is not a way to skip them.

Responsible use on Airbnb

Use TempSMSVerify only for your own Airbnb account. Fake listings, fake reviews, extra accounts to reuse referral or first-booking credits, booking for someone who was removed from Airbnb, and moving payments off the platform break Airbnb's terms and our Acceptable Use Policy at /acceptable-use.

FAQ

Airbnb verification FAQ

Does Airbnb require a phone number?

Yes, to book or to host. Airbnb's help center says guests must have a verified phone number before making a reservation, and Hosts before listing. A TempSMSVerify number can receive the 4-digit code for your own account. Change it to a number you own before you book, since hosts use it to contact you.

How many digits is the Airbnb verification code?

Airbnb's phone verification code is 4 digits, sent by SMS when you select Verify. Two-factor passcodes for sensitive account areas are sent separately by text or call. Enter only the newest code shown in your TempSMSVerify dashboard, and request a new one if it has expired.

Why is my Airbnb verification code not coming?

Check that the country selector matches the number and that you entered digits only. Airbnb also notes that some phone types cannot receive its code. With TempSMSVerify, if no SMS arrives you can cancel after about 2 minutes, and your frozen balance is refunded automatically. Then try a number from another country.

Will my host see my temporary number?

Yes. Once a reservation is confirmed, Airbnb makes the guest's and the Host's phone numbers visible to each other. If the number on your profile is a TempSMSVerify number, it stops receiving messages after up to 20 minutes, so your host could not reach you. Switch to a number you own before you book.

Can I use a temporary number for Airbnb two-factor authentication?

No. Airbnb sends two-factor passcodes to the number saved on your account, and a TempSMSVerify number stops receiving messages after up to 20 minutes. You could be locked out of payouts, messages or reservations. Keep a number you own on the account for two-factor authentication.

Does a phone number verify my identity on Airbnb?

No. Phone verification only confirms you can receive a code. Airbnb may separately ask for a government ID or other details, and a temporary number does not replace or skip that step. TempSMSVerify is for receiving SMS codes for your own account, nothing more.

Is it allowed to use a temporary number for Airbnb?

Verifying your own account is a normal use. Fake listings or reviews, extra accounts for referral or first-booking credits, booking for removed users and taking payments off Airbnb break its terms and our Acceptable Use Policy at /acceptable-use. Airbnb can suspend accounts used that way.
