How Naver sign-up verification works

Naver's sign-up form asks for an ID, password, name, date of birth, gender, nationality and a mobile number. You pick the country code, enter the number, and Naver texts a 6-digit code to confirm it. Naver says you can sign up from abroad with the phone you use locally.

The form also has an optional box to sign up with a real-name-verified ID. Leave it unchecked if you only need search, Mail, Cafe or Blog. You can verify your identity later if a feature asks for it.

Account creation is easy; identity verification is the wall

Naver separates having an account from proving who you are. Features tied to payments or Korean law need 본인확인 (identity verification): Naver Pay, Naver Shopping, Naver Membership, paying for Naver Reservation bookings, and safe-trade features in Naver Cafe.

Foreigners without a Korean phone plan can use an i-PIN or, since June 2026, passport verification for Naver Map bookings and payments. A temporary number does not help with either, because both check your legal identity rather than a phone.
