Can I use a temporary phone number for Zalo?
Only when Zalo texts you a code. A TempSMSVerify number, ideally Vietnamese, can receive Zalo's SMS in your browser. Since February 2025, Zalo often asks new users to send a paid text to a short code instead, and a receive-only number cannot do that. If no SMS arrives, your balance is refunded automatically.

How Zalo verification works in 2026
Zalo used to text every new user a verification code. In February 2025, VnExpress reported that Zalo began asking many new registrations to send a paid SMS from the phone to a short code (7539, and later 6020 at a lower price) to get verified, citing system congestion.
That matters for any online number. TempSMSVerify numbers receive messages; they cannot send texts. If Zalo shows a code input screen and texts the code, you are fine. If Zalo shows a 'send a message to' screen, the number cannot complete it, and you should cancel for a refund.
Zalo and Vietnam's phone number rules
Vietnam's Decree 147/2024, in force since December 25, 2024, requires social network accounts in Vietnam to be verified with a Vietnamese mobile number, or with an ID number for users who confirm they have no Vietnamese number. Only verified accounts may post, comment and share.
In practice, Zalo works best with a +84 number, and many foreign numbers never receive a code. Check the catalog for Vietnam stock first. For a Zalo Official Account (a business page), Zalo requires a personal account on a Vietnamese number.
- Good fit: chatting with a Vietnamese supplier, landlord or school before you arrive.
- Not a fit: Zalo Official Accounts or ZaloPay, which need verified Vietnamese credentials.

No. ZaloPay is a payment service that requires identity verification with Vietnamese credentials, and payment services are outside what TempSMSVerify supports. A temporary number may get you into Zalo chat, but it is not suitable for anything that moves money or needs your legal identity.
What happens to my Zalo account when the number expires?
